The fourth graders at Hampton Elementary are taking care of the community garden as their community service project. They have cleared the gardens and prepared them for planting. Each fourth grade student is responsible for planting, weeding and harvesting their section of the garden. All picked produce is donated to Forgotten Harvest. This endeavor is coordinated by Dr. Jay Mitchell, M.D., Founder of KidzKare and Raising Rochester.
Third grade students are drawing their shoes and hands for a worm’s eye view perspective project in art class!
Many of our upper and lower elementary classes at Hampton are paired up as "book buddies." We get together once a month or so and read together or do an activity. This week, Ms. Seitz's fourth graders and Mrs. Galuszka's kindergartners worked on a craft together. Book buddies are fun for big kids and little kids!
Hampton's Parent Liaison Center (Room 28) offers a variety of opportunities for ESL parents. Knitting club (pictured below) meets every Thursday at 1:00 p.m. The center also offers computer classes, parenting classes, and a reading group. Looks like fun! For more information on the knitting club, contact Astrid Janicke at [email protected]
Hampton hornets get to go on really cool field trips! This week, Mrs. Cardinal's first grade class visited Dinosaur Hill to learn about nature. Check out some pictures from their trip below:
Did you know that March is reading month? Actually, every month is reading month at Hampton! However, we have some special activities during the month of March to celebrate reading. Mr. Starr and Mr. Behrman both visited our Kindergarten classes as mystery readers! The Kindergartners enjoyed hearing stories from these important guest readers! Leave us a comment to tell us your favorite book!
Check out all the awesome learning taking place in Ms. Teasley's fifth grade class! Ms. Teasley's 5th grade class visited the 52-3 District Court with Honorable Lisa L Asadoorian after learning about the judicial system. As part of the systems and survival unit in science, Ms. Teasley's fifth graders enjoy researching information on the behavioral and physical characteristics of various animals in the animal kingdom. Hampton 5th graders are learning about the respiratory system. The hands on investigation involves dissecting sheep lungs!
The fourth graders at Hampton are learning about government. They made posters to explain the meaning of the phrases in the Preamble. Ms. Seitz's class made this video to share what they learned! Check out Ms. Seitz's class blog at http://digitalvoices.edublogs.org
